KiCad symbol sourcing fields

Decided 2026-09-09. Applies to every .kicad_sym in KiCad.

Every symbol has exactly: Reference, Value, Footprint, Datasheet, Description, Manufacturer, Manufacturer Part Number, LCSC (plus optional ki_keywords / ki_fp_filters).

  • Field name is LCSC, not JLCPCB: kicad-jlcpcb-tools and easyeda2kicad read it by default.
  • Description: UPPERCASE, Digi-Key catalogue style, max 32 characters. e.g. IC CHRG MGMT MULTI CHEM 36VQFN. Source is Digi-Key's ProductDescription (already that style); Mouser descriptions are long mixed case and only a fallback. Trim at a word boundary, never mid-token.
  • Generic non-purchasable symbols (jumpers, test points, headers) get n/a in Manufacturer / MPN / LCSC.
  • Prices stay in the BOM report, not in the symbol.

Enforced by scripting/normalize_mpn.py then scripting/standardize_fields.py.
